136th Annual Prize Giving of Ananda College

The 136th Annual Prize Giving of Ananda College, Colombo, for the year 2022, was held on Friday, 29th August 2025, at the Kularatne Hall of the College.

The event was graced by His Excellency Santosh Jha, the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, as the Chief Guest. The distinguished Old Anandian entrepreneur, Mr. Imal Kalutotage, also attended as the Special Guest. The participation of the Indian High Commissioner at this year’s ceremony symbolized the longstanding and cherished ties between India and Ananda, a bond that has been strengthened over generations. In the past, eminent Indian leaders and scholars such as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, J. Krishnamurti, and Sarojini Naidu have graced Ananda on similar occasions, further enriching this tradition.

Organized under the guidance of the Principal, Mr. D. M. L. P. Dissanayake, the Prize Giving recognized the outstanding academic performances of students in the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination (2021), G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination (2022), Grade 5 Scholarship Examination (2022), and the Year-End Examinations (2022).

The highlight of the ceremony was the awarding of the prestigious Fritz Kunz Memorial Award for All-Round Excellence, which was presented to Sandaruwan Jayawira. A brilliant Old Anandian, Sandaruwan is currently pursuing his third year of studies at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya.
