Ananda College solemnly marked the 119th Olcott Commemoration Day in honour of Colonel Henry Steel Olcott, the visionary founder of the Buddhist Theosophical Society and a pioneer of Buddhist education in Sri Lanka. The event was organized by the Senior Old Anandians’ Association together with the Old Anandians’ Buddhist Association, reflecting the continued dedication of the alumni community in preserving and honouring the rich heritage of the college. The occasion served as a tribute to Colonel Olcott’s invaluable contribution toward the establishment and progress of Buddhist schools, including Ananda College, and his enduring commitment to strengthening Buddhist education in the country. The ceremony was attended by the Principal of Ananda College, Mr. D. M. L. P. Dissanayake, members of the academic staff, and several distinguished Senior Old Anandians who gathered to pay homage to this great benefactor. Their presence highlighted the deep respect and gratitude the Ananda fraternity continues to hold for Colonel Olcott’s pioneering efforts during a significant era in Sri Lanka’s educational history. Religious observances were conducted by the Venerable Maha Sangha of Ananda College, creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere within the college premises. The chanting of Seth Pirith and other religious activities invoked blessings upon the institution, its students, staff, and alumni. The 119th Olcott Commemoration Day was thus observed with dignity and devotion, reaffirming the college’s steadfast commitment to the noble ideals and values established by Colonel Olcott.
