Ananda wins Inter-School U-20 Baseball Champions After 19 Years

Ananda College has brought glory back to the alma mater by reclaiming the Under-20 Inter-School Baseball Championship after an extraordinary gap of 19 years. This remarkable achievement has not only revived the pride of our college but also highlighted the skill, determination, and teamwork of our young athletes.

The journey to the championship was both challenging and exhilarating. In the semi-final, our team faced D. S. Senanayake College, Colombo, and emerged victorious with a thrilling 4–3 win, securing a place in the final. The Grand Final was held on 14th September 2025 at the Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, where Ananda College delivered an outstanding performance to defeat Royal College, Colombo, with a dominant 10–0 victory. Throughout the tournament, our team remained unbeaten, demonstrating resilience, consistency, and a remarkable fighting spirit.

The tournament also showcased some exceptional individual performances. U. Hemasinghe was recognized as the Best Batter for his consistent hitting and ability to perform under pressure. I. Udawatta earned the title of Best Wicket-Keeper for his sharp reflexes and flawless fielding. The Most Valuable Player of the tournament was M. Jayasinghe, whose all-round contributions, both with the bat and in the field, played a pivotal role in securing victory for Ananda College.

This historic achievement was made possible not only through the dedication of the players but also due to the visionary guidance and leadership of the Principal of Ananda College, Mr. D. M. L. P. Dissanayake, whose encouragement inspired the team to aim higher. The Prefect of Game, Deputy Principal (Sports and Co-curricular), Master in Charge provided expert training, strategic planning, and continuous support, while the parents of the athletes offered unwavering motivation and encouragement. The Old Anandians’ Sports Club also played a vital role, offering resources, mentorship, and continued involvement, which strengthened the team’s confidence and performance.

This championship victory, ending a 19-year wait, is a testament to the combined effort of all stakeholders — players, coaches, parents, Old Anandians, and the school leadership. It reaffirms Ananda College’s legacy as a leading institution in school baseball. As the college celebrates this golden chapter, the triumph is sure to inspire younger Anandians to take up the sport, follow in the footsteps of these champions, and carry the torch of excellence forward in the years to come.
